Meditation of the Month: Circle of Light

“When the light is made to move in a circle, all the energies of heaven and earth, of the light and the dark, are crystallized.” Lao Tzu.
You can do this meditation alone or with a partner.
How to practise this meditation alone:
1. Sit or stand in front of a tree or flower and look at it with an outward, active gaze. After five minutes, rest your eyes in your hands and note your thoughts.
2. Reverse the process – let yourself receive the tree or flower for five minutes, with eyes open or closed. Again record your thought and feelings.
How to practise it with a partner in love-making:
1. The man looks into the woman’s eyes and the woman receives his gaze for five minutes.
2. Reverse the process – the woman looks into the man’s eyes and he receives her gaze for five minutes.
3. You may wish to continue this swapping of active and receptive gazing several times.
You may find it helpful to use certain positions when trying this meditation – as in, whichever partner is doing the active gazing may wish to be on top. Or you may want to use the Yab Yum position, where the woman sits on the man’s lap.
You may lose track of who is who! Sometimes the woman becomes the man, and sometimes the man becomes the woman. A circle is created both with your own inner man-inner woman, and with your partner. By learning to receive your woman or your man fully inside of yourself, you will automatically become a master lover. You will intuitively know exactly what is needed during each moment of union, as you are both the male and female in a simultaneous circle of energy. As Lao Tzu says, “All the energies of heaven and earth, of the light and the dark, are crystallised.”
